Metromint Water is Nasty

I've seen advertisements for MetroMint dubiously claiming something to the effect of it being the most requested water in bars and clubs (or was that restaurants?). A bottle costs around $1.50
Well here's my response to that - a) I've never seen it in a restaurant, bar, club, breakfast nook, or vending machine anywhere in San Francisco - a major metropolitan area. b) Metromint is icky. I bought a bottle at Safeway over the weekend (hail to the power of advertising)
Metromint Spearmint water tastes like if I brushed my teeth and collected the gargled spit water for a week then bottled and sold it.
Cool Hunting would disagree but I stand by my review. Ingredients are Purified Water and Mint. I struggled to finish a bottle of this yesterday and was unsuccesful. I tried drinking it alone, with fruit (grapes, banana, strawberries, rasberries), with chocolate, with coffee, and with salad - a variety of compliments to any mint water.

Ember said: Gee, I really enjoy Metromint. I find it to be very refreshing and help settle the stomach. I have been drinking it for about a month now and no "toothpaste" experience for me. It also helps calm a ticklish throat. I have not tried drinking a whole bottle at one setting, mainly because I don't drink a whole bottle of anything at one setting. (Most of my coffee drinks end up being sipped for a period of time also.)

Me said: Psychology folks...
Original poster is grossed out by toothpaste / has phobia of toothpaste backwash. Plain and simple.
Those brought up realizing mint teas are yummy for the tummy will like this water.
Opinions Opinions Opinions.
Now if it WAS gak toothpaste water, YUK! But it would be white-ish :-D
All in all, it's pretty damn good stuff if you're into mint teas and the likes.

junglelife said: That's a pretty funny comment "Me". Backwash phobia? A bit of a stretch. I'm talking about *taste* not fear. Also, this is not tea (ginger tea is better for the tummy than mint btw).
I'm a lover of tea (peppermint, jasmin mint, green-tea mint, and other mint varieties) but this tastes nothing like those, and I've never heard of or tried spearmint tea.
On second thought, this water tastes like a pack of wrigleys spearmint gum chewed up and spit out into a cup.

JB said: I can't speak for the Spearmint flavor (I've never liked spearmint), but the Peppermint is very good. It doesn't taste the slightest bit like toothpaste. Even if it did, that would only be because toothpaste has MINT in it to cover the taste of the actual toothpaste, which IS vile.
Anyway, to each his own. We all have different tastes, that's why there's so many things to try. In this goofball of a desperately-trying-to-be-cool city, you'd think people would understand that more.
My only problem with Mint Water is that it is outrageously overpriced.

BarbArt said: I bought Metromint for the first time because I was seeking the calming effects of mint on the tummy. I did find it too strong at first, and thought, why pay so much for something I don't like?
I had purchased a six-pack and tried adding a "splash" to my regular drinking water. Voila?just right. I really enjoy my minted water, and find I can tolerate the outrageous price when it's used slowly as just an additive.
Funny thing is that now when I feel like treating myself, I drink it "straight up." Perhaps it's an acquired taste.

FS said: I love both the peppermint and the Spearmint......open your minds. This water is the best thing I have found lately. I find it very refreshing. If you use a natural toothpaste, like Tom's, perhaps you would enjoy it as much as I do.
Natural is best.

Kim said: Yes, I thought the water tasted like drinking chewing gum. haha, I loved the way you described its taste as bottled toothpaste spit.
But I did enjoy the breath freshening effects! I burped half an hour after sipping it, and my breath felt like I just brushed my teeth.
Does anyone else's bottle have a big, solid piece of ice floating in the middle of the bottle?
It's been there since I bought it...and that was several days ago. And since then, it's just been refridgerated normally.

You really do have to like mint to like this and the price is high... but it really is a treat for me. I am so glad someone came up with a no sugar or sweetened alternative of flavored water.

robin said: I don't sit and gulp down a whole bottle at a time, but peppermint is known to be a stomach soother and a mood lifter. I saw a positive review in my local newspaper, and was intrigued, so I bought some at my local Publix. I now keep a few bottles on hand at a time and sip them after dinner. Its very light and refreshing - but you have to be prepared for the fact that it's not sweet, just minty. I agree with a previous poster that it's just about what each person likes...or doesn't. To each his own!
