Presented at the Köln imm fair in 2006, Big-Game has produced a new collection for the Swiss-based fashion label +41.
Questioning the meaning of luxury, accesories, exclusivity and fashion, Big-Game poses the question: What if plastic were replaced with gold?
Big-Game answers this questions creatively by replacing the plastic in such things as a Bic lighter, thumbtacks, pen caps, the clasp on a Swatch watch and the connector for some in-ear headphone buds among other items.
What's brilliant is how it's applied with such subtlety - rather than turning an entire Swatch watch gold it is only the little piece that holds the strap in place. Rather than making an entire pen gold it's just the cap, and rather than an entire lighter, just the gas switch.
"We've picked standard, universal products, and replaced a part of each object by an equivalent in gold", explains Elric Petit (of Big-Game). "We love the shrewd blend between the down-to-earth functionalism of mass-products and the ultimate precious material: gold"
Interesting stuff indeed...
