7 days, 4000+ miles (not including 2,000 miles to and from the start in Indiana!). The race begins May 6th, 2006
Car and Driver's Cannonball One Lap of America is widely known in the U.S. sports car scene as one of the most difficult and demanding endurance races in the country. The event, as it always has been, is foremost one of endurance and vehicle preparation. No support crews are allowed. The tires that are used on the street are the same ones that are raced on (one set per team with no more than 2 spares allowed). Although scoring is based on performance at the racetracks, the vehicles and their drivers must survive over 4,000 miles of driving interspersed with the finest meals available at gas station convenience stores. Personal hygiene takes a holiday and friendships (sometimes marriages) are stretched to the limits as these competitors battle fatigue, weather, traffic and the demands of high-speed competition with both unknown amateurs and seasoned professional drivers like Parnelli Jones, Price Cobb, John Buffum, Elliot Forbes Robinson and Hurley Haywood.
My friend Jeff MacGregor from Offset Racing will be competing with teammate Jim Smola in his 1985 BMW 325e. Jeff reports "I have 2 races left this season, then my BMW goes under the knife for a transplanted 300+ hp Ford engine, roll cage, and every thing Super-Sized for 2 guys to live in the damn car for a week."
The race is used by many as a charity fundraiser. Offset Racing is raising funds for the National MS Society

Offset Racing and the South Carolina Region of the SCCA (Sport Car Club of America) are holding a charity fundraising race on December 3 in Lexington, SC. This event is to kick off our year-long efforts.
