Karmaloop to launch Video Channel
posted: Friday September 28, 2007 - 12:40 PM
Online streetwear retailer Karmaloop is launching their own video channel called KarmaloopTV.com starting early next month. The content will focus on interviews with all things that pertain to this crazy culture we live in: label designers, fashion experts, hip-hop artists, and dj's. Not to mention there will be exclusive behind-the-scenes access to tradeshows and concerts. They’ve even got plans to post up user-generated content. Check this preview then fire up the camcorder and get ready to style on the world in their soon-to-be-unveiled contest. Sign up to hear when KarmaloopTV launches!
William Spencer in the Hollarado Skate Video
posted: Friday April 13, 2007 - 5:39 PM
Some straight next-level antics in this clip from the "Denver Shop" Hollarado skateboarding video. Think Bam Margera meets Gleaming the Cube. Someone else called it the Parkour of skateboarding which seems apt.
The quality of the video isn't that great but it's definitely worth the watch as 1: it's currently making the rounds on such informed blogs as that of Josh Spear and Upper Playground and 2: it's some seriously off the wall shit.
Complex Magazine Premium Goods Party Report

If you have any doubt as to the direction streetwear is headed (1980) or currently entrenched, then look now further than the Premium Goods section of Complex Magazine. Fronted by Mark Ecko, the magazine recently sponsored a party at their Manhattan showroom. A nice writeup by Kazuko Ito and a handful of pictures follow on the Label Networks site.
Mezzanine: Recommended shows for January 2007
posted: Thursday January 04, 2007 - 1:49 AM
Mezzanine is one of my favorite places in the city and I've seen some of my favorite artists perform there. The sound system is kicking, there's 3 bars downstairs and 1 upstairs (sometimes 2), a dedicated outdoor area for smokers, ample parking nearby, as well as public transportation and consistenly talented bookings.
This month I'm recommending the following shows:
Monday, January 8th: Lady Sovereign with Honeycut and Young Love. This is actually a sort of payback show as from what I hear she put on an embarrasing performance and is going so far to to give a free show to previous ticket holders after being blasted on Myspace. With that much pressure this show be the show to put doubters to rest.
Thursday, January 11th: SF Sketchfest Opening Night with Stella. Stella was created by Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain also now as MTV's THE STATE. Both of these shows in addition to anything and everything else those 3 have performed in have been wacky, witty, and ridiculously funny. I didn't know Mezzanine could handle this type of event and I'm wondering if there will be seating? Either wa - opening night of SF Sketchfest with Stella! Tickets will sell out.
Friday, January 19th: Angie Stone in her only Bay Area live performance. This is a terrific opportunity to hear this singer, songwriter, producer and actress on an amazing system.

Recommended Action/Drama: Jet Li - Unleashed
posted: Monday September 18, 2006 - 8:05 PM
I hadn't expected much after Jet Li's other roles in American films such as The One, Romeo Must Die (with Aaliyah), and Cradle to the Grave (with DMX) in which he was miscast, poorly supported, or poorly directed but it was in HD so I couldn't resist.
Imagine my surprise then to find a movie with fantastic action, a terrific supporting cast including Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins (of Roger Rabbit fame!), a real plot full of emotion, suspense and drama, and a director with credits including: The Transporter and Transporter 2 (two great action films in their own right). Add to that a soundtrack from Massive Attack and martial arts direction from Yuen Wo Ping (Kung Fu Hustle, Kill Bill 1 & 2, The Matrix Trilogy) and you've got yourself a real treat of a film.
Equally billed as both action and drama Unleashed does not disappoint. Highly recommended!
