Yelle Performance in Webster Hall in NYC
posted: Tuesday October 21, 2008 - 8:13 AM
The French electro-singer Julie Budget, known as Yelle (feminized acronym of YEL ‘You Enjoy Life’), tore up Webster Hall last Tuesday October 14th along with Funeral Party and Kap10Kurt. While some compare her sound to the likes of M.I.A, we can’t get enough of her stage attire exclusively designed with the help of Jermey Scott and her unforgettable, highly colorful stage presence. Yelle encourages fans to dress up for the dance party by downloading their own masks from the bands Myspace page (myspace.com/iloveyelle). Our friend, NYC night -life photographer Nicky Digital, caught the after party at Bar 13 hosted by Girls and Boys. For those who missed the show, make sure to check out the photos and videos online (nickydigital.com/index.php?/gallery/album/C1055/). Yelle’s highly anticipated C’est L’Amerique Tour began at the start of the month in Dallas and the dance masquerade party is making its away across the US; be sure to check out upcoming dates!

The Presets, the Sydney based electronic duo made up of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes, are taking America by storm. The bands second album, “Apocalypso,” was released in April 2008 and debuted at number 1 in Australia. Hamilton and Moyes met at University, where they formed their two person band named after the automatic sound settings built into digital keyboards. Since the release of their first album, Beams (2005), The Presets have enjoyed international success. In a recent interview, NickyDigital.com sat down with Hamilton and Moyes to talk about their roots, their influences, and their new trans-American tour.

Checkout this exclusive interview we did with the up and coming group The Secret Handshake...
Where does the inspiration for your music come from?
Well, I’ve always really been into daft punk and 80s pop, so I would have to say a large part of it comes from there.
Do you plan on adding any members to your band?
Ummm, well, I have live musicians that play with me on tour, but as far as actual members, probably not. hahah i really enjoy the alone time I get when I write! Plus it makes things easier when there are decisions to be made, I don’t have to figure out what 4 other people need and want and then weigh that with my own needs and wants to come to 1 decision. I can react quickly and do what I feel works best for the project.
What is your musical background?
Well... I grew up listening to 80s metal (Iron Maiden/Judas Priest) and then 80's and 90s pop. So I would have to say... in a nutshell that my musical background is PRE TEEN CRAP. Hahaha as for bands, when I was 18 I was the drummer in a metal band and not too far after that, I started doing my own thing and here I am.
Do you write your own lyrics?
Yes, of course!! Actually, I don’t really write anything down at all… I just start singing what comes to mind at the time and go with it.
