Satinbox Holiday Gift Mode

Satinbox Gifts
Satinbox reminds me of a Hammacher Schlemmer / Sharper Image type store meets in-flight shopping guide. There's an array of cute and clever products from a variety of places all housed under one roof. Satinbox ups the ante by providing a categorized shopping guide and dubbing it "Gift Mode".

Organized by recipient (him, her, couples, parents, etc.), price (under $100, $50, $75 etc.), occasion (anniversary, baby shower, friendship, housewarming, thank you etc.), and passion (food lover, player, traveler, luxist, pet lover etc.), there's 100 ways to find the perfect gift.

Categorizing products this way makes the experience by expedient and joyful. Poking around I found all sorts of gizmos and gadgets and a whole lot of fun stuff that would make excellent gifts.

Living in Vancouver Canada, Michelle creates these sustainable sweaters entirely by hand from recycled fabric. Each sweater is built with an incredible amount of care and detail with embroidered accents, strategically placed buttons, hidden pockets and contrasting front, side and back designs. Most sweaters are sized medium to large and are one of a kind. By themselves, each sweater is a unique work of art.

Michelle states: I love to create wearable wool clothing for women who recognize that a lot of thought and passion has gone into the design and making of her original sweater. I source and deconstruct the materials myself and the cutting, tailoring and finishing is all done by hand. These beautiful sweaters are built to last and will give you pleasure for many seasons to come.

Dr J vs Larry Bird
Dr J vs Larry Bird
Lookie here - two discoveries in one!
1. I did not know that Boundless did an online shop update
2. I've never heard of packer Shoes

So I spent the better part of an hour researching each and every item available from the Boundless NYC shop and stumbled on this fantastc shirt - the classic image of Julius Irving vs. Larry Bird in a loving chokehold. This was my childhood and looking back it was everything. Growing up in LA I was a Lakers' fan so naturally the Celtics were the hated team. This image of Dr. J and Larry Bird sums up the era so well.

New @ Self Edge: Samurai, Diamond & Bones, 3Sixteen

3Sixteen Fitted Denim Hat
Samurai S0500XXX
Diamond and Bones Bandana
Self Edge just got in some fresh new gear to accompany their growing collection of high-end and very exclusive clothing. This time around Samurai, Diamond & Bones and 3Sixteen bring the heat in the form of Samurai S0500XX Jeans, Diamond & Bones Bandana and 3Sixteen Denim Hats.

I'm still trying to catch up with this selvedge scene so bear with me here as I blatantly paraphrase the Self Edge blog: The Samurai S0500XX, aka The Contest Jeans were made with cotton from Texas which has a far shorter fiber than what is normally used in denim; due to it's short fibers the denim is far more slubby than usual with little tufts of fiber sticking out giving it a very unique look. As usual Samurai jeans are as sturdy as they come, made in Japan, selvedge, hidden rivets, the works.

The 3Sixteen hat meanwhile is fitted black inside-out denim with a satin interior.

As Self Edge has only just opened I'm not on the up regarding how long things remain in stock so if you're interested I assume you gotta act fast.

Nike X Stussy Free Trail NYC Edition
Nike X Stussy Free Trail NYC Edition
Sold Out Collete has the Stussy World Tour Nike Free Trail collaboration for 115 Euro.

Nike Free are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn - the only thing they suffer from is a lack of style. The pair I purchased from Niketown SF just did not look all that stylish and the weird toe cap thing sealed their fate. I bought them for a trip to Lake Tahoe however and they were perfect. They fit and feel amazing and move to every contour your foot moves in.

So there's your background story and here's what they would look like if they had some real style attached. I might just have to hit up some of the local shops in SF to see if I can track these down... Nike x Stussy!

Turntable Lab Holiday Gift Guide

Turntable Lab Holiday Gift Guide
Turntable Lab has come up with a very comprehensive and well-organized gift guide categorized by interest.

Updated daily, the guide is split into categories for "your friend is a..." and then continues with; music nerd, designer slash artsy, hipster, regular, non-obsessive type, ipod or macbook user etc. There are also the Turntable Lab all-time classics and items $15 and under.

With plenty to choose from I got real into a ton of cool books and DVDs I didn't even know existed including the 33 1/3 book series which dissects such classic albums as Beastie Boy's Paul's Boutique and The Smiths' Meat is Murder (both found under the "music nerd" section).

Everything is priced reasonably so your buck will go a long way here. Recommended!

Slaughterhead Wallets @ Art Star

Slaughterhead Wallets
Slaughterhead Wallet Details
Art Star has a whole new selection of Slaughterhead wallets. First mentioned on Jungle Life during the SuperMaggie post, I picked up one of these wallets for my girlfriend back in June.

Slaughterhead is the husband and wife team of Joey Slaughter and Jessica Head in Monroe, Louisiana. Joey does the design, printing, and SH website, while Jessica does the sewing of bags, wallets and pouches.

The wallets are surprisingly detailed - silkscreened vinyl, handmade and hand-stitched. More than an art piece they actually handle the job of being fully functioning wallets with a place for your credit cards, picture ID, cash and assorted receipts.

Each wallet is unique and quantities are very limited (by the time I got to SuperMaggie last time most were already gone) so be sure to head over to Art Star soon if you're looking to buy for yourself or a friend.

Wallets are $40 each.

FOLD Bedding @ Design Public

FOLD Bedding
FOLD Bedding
FOLD Bedding
Designed by Max and Linda Geiser, FOLD bedding is uniquely made of 100% wool flannel with accented stitching. Described by Design Public as "different, thin, colorful, rare, versatile, and instant-mod", these sheets aren't something you're likely to find in your local shopping mall.

Personally, I'm on the fence with these. They look like combination part IKEA, part shmancy hotel, and part The Standard (downtown LA). Speaking to the practicalities of having dry clean only sheets reminds me of my Grandmother's house - no sitting on the bed!

All things fair however, FOLD has an idea that's very different and with a dizzying array of color choices these could work real well to liven up a bedroom with style. Taking another approach you could also consider replacing that fluffy down comforter with this lightweight wool one for some allergy-free nirvana.

Price range is ~$200 - 500 for various sheets, shams and bedspreads
