After 25 years and over 1500 different print ads, Absolut Vodka has killed the campaign that made it famous.
The new campaign, launched by TBWA/Chiat/Day just over a month ago, features not the iconic bottle displayed in a seemingly infinite array of creative disguises but rather Absolut as a brand to be associated with among other things; Marilyn Monroe, Lenny Kravitz, Steve McQueen, CBGB's, Office Space, I Monster, Anime, The Moon Landing, and The Statue of Liberty.
Accompanying the campaign are new Absolutisms such as: Absolut Kravitz, Absolut Anime, Absolut Case of the Mondays, Absolut Road Trip, Absolut Welcome, and Absolut Rock Club.
The Absolut Vodka bottle is nowhere to be seen in the ads. The ads are decidedly Absolut in flavor but not nearly as distinctive in my opinion. Today Lenny Kravitz, tomorrow? Someone else perhaps. The original ads were timeless, these new ones perhaps just a moment in time.
With premium Vodka all the rage these days, Absolut needs to set itself apart from the pack. This new ad campaign aims to do just that. Only time will tell its success.

Simplifying Credit Card Debt

It's a well-known (or possibly unknown to many?) fact that one MUST get stuck in the catch-22 of credit card debt: it takes debt to earn credit but too much debt and you can't pay off your credit.
In order to qualify for a car or home loan at a good interest rate for instance, one must have shown and proven their ability to incur and pay off their creditors over a long period of time. What this means in simpler terms is that if you want a car, whomever is planning on loaning you the money needs some way of seeing (beyond your income/paycheck) that you are actually capable of returning the money (+interest) that they are willing to loan you.
This becomes even more critical when looking to purchase real estate. A loan broker needs long-term proof that you've been able to incur and pay off debt. The problem however is in how much easier it is to incur debt that it is to pay off.
In a post that I wrote a few months ago I discussed the shocked I encountered at my glowing credit score - with so much debt, how could my score be so high? Well, it turns out that debt and debt history is a good thing - within reason.
And so, as I embark on my journey towards home ownership I look at my existing debts and set a goal for paying everything off in a reasonable time. It is here that the questions arise: How long will it take? How much should I contribute towards my debt each month? What about interest payments? What if I only pay the minimum?
A recent post to LifeHacker leads us a to a simple tool from John Maeda. His online calculator takes into account APR, minimum monthly payment as percentage, principal, and actual monthly payment. Enter a few quick numbers and you can quickly see the length of time it will take you to pay off any debt! A useful tool indeed...

Tab Relaunched as Tab Energy

Coca Cola recently announced the relaunch and rebranding of its Tab soft drink. Originally introduced in 1963, Tab was the first diet soda produced by the Coca-Cola Company and has been reformulated several times.
Varies websites have sprung up in memoriam such as I Love Tab and 40 years after its initial launch it's considering a pop-culture icon.
Tab Energy is being branded as "The deliciously pink 5 calorie energy drink created specifically for women with a sense of style and purpose". Check the website to see the above picture which confirms that women (who like Yoga) like energy drinks.
The new version apparently tastes nothing like the original (some have described it as a combination of cough syrup and pixie sticks), does contain calories (5 to be exact), and has 95 milligrams of caffeine (versus 31 in the original).
