The Interdictor versus Hurricane Katrina
I stumbled on a link to this buried among 200 or so visitor comments on an article at Making Light entitled "Why everyone didn't leave". Initially I'd been searching for a bit of journalism about the racial demographic of people I've been seeing in Hurricane Katrina aftermath coverage. The Making Light article along with one at Slate provided the journalism I was looking for.

Meanwhile, I unwittingly stumbled on the LiveJournal blog of The Interdictor - an army trained and experienced Crisis Manager working for a data center in downtown New Orleans.

Starting from August 27th you can read his live experience of the hurricane as it descended on the city and then the city descended into chaos. It's absolutely staggering what can happen to a civilization in less than a week. As I post this it seems as though some form of chaos is being brought back to the city but it wasn't but 10 hours before that Interdictor described the scene as "lord of the flies". The latest report from Associated Press is even more grim.

Historically, I've refrained from commenting on news events - political or otherwise - but I feel The Interdictor's courageous experience is an important one to share. I spent an hour or so reading the past 5 days' posts and I'm all caught up. I understand the mainstream media has also discovered the blog so it's possible you'll be hearing more about it.

Updates are very frequent and the posts are personal, informative, and concise. They also have a webcam running, and several galleries of photos.

Interdictor also gave a shout out to his beautiful girlfriend Crystal's OneModelPlace page. She is with him at the data center.
